Planning tool

Spray foam insulation calculator.

Estimate surface area and board feet for early project planning. Use the result to prepare for a conversation, not as a product specification or installed-price quote.

Coverage estimator

Enter the dimensions of one surface.

For walls, use wall length and height. For an attic floor or roof deck, use length and width. Repeat the calculation for differently sized areas.

Planning note: Actual material requirements depend on framing, substrate profile, temperature, equipment, application yield, trimming, obstructions, detailing, product selection, and the specified assembly. Foam thickness and fire-protection requirements must be determined for the project.

Reading the result

Square feet measure the surface. Board feet measure foam volume.

A board foot equals one square foot of material at one inch thick. An 800-square-foot surface at three inches therefore represents 2,400 board feet before any planning allowance.

The calculator does not choose open-cell or closed-cell foam, determine code-compliant thickness, assess moisture, or confirm whether spray foam is suitable. Those decisions belong in the project assessment.

Calculator questions

What the estimate can and cannot tell you.

Does this calculator provide an installed price?

No. Access, preparation, protection, product, thickness, fire requirements, project size, site controls, and other conditions all affect an installed scope and price.

Should I enter open-cell or closed-cell foam?

The board-foot calculation measures volume regardless of foam type. Product selection and thickness must be based on the assembly, moisture behavior, code requirements, and performance goals.

Can I use this for crawl spaces or metal buildings?

Yes, for preliminary area and volume planning. The actual application still requires a condition and suitability assessment.
